McDowell Village Neighborhood

For decades the northwest corner of McDowell and Granite Reef Roads was home to a Smitty’s shopping center. Then in 2001, the City of Scottsdale purchased the 13-acre site for the location of its brand new 37,500 square foot flagship senior center. As the City mapped out its plan, developers were invited to provide proposals for the purchase and use of the remaining areas of the site.

Our owner, a joint venture of Opus West Corporation and RED Group, LLC, were selected by the City to develop and build a full-service independent living senior apartment community and 10,000 square feet of neighborhood retail space.  This seemed like such a natural fit with the new senior center. The retail shops were purchased and built by Global Retail Development Group. Currently, the retail space is in the process of being leased, including Temptations Café, Bright Eyes Optical and Scottsdale Healthcare Resource Library.
